It’s no secret that one of the most interesting classes at Canyon is Mr. Reyes’ Graphic Design. The class has been involved in many interesting art projects throughout the year, and is continuing that pattern with two new projects this semester, the Faces Word Portrait project and the CTE Conference project.

The Faces project is certainly one of the most unique ones in the Art department. Students begin by taking a picture of a person, and recreating the picture through words and quotes spoken by them. The project not only encourages an understanding of valuable tools like Photoshop, but real research into the life and philosophy of an important figure. As is typical of an art class, the life and mind of the student is enriched through such projects.

The most important and interesting work; however, is the CTE Conference Project. The Conference promotes various film, media art, and technical design skills through a variety of classes in OUSD. According to Senior Brandon Park, the classes and contest are meant to, “...enhance the spirit of innovation and creativity.” Participants, who include all seniors from Graphic Design, must create a poster design to promote the CTE classes. The winning entry will be featured on the flyer for next year, and the winner will also receive a cash prize of $250.

It's clear to see that the work that goes on in Graphic Design is anything but dull. If these wonderful projects are anything to go by, Mr. Reyes’ students are sure to keep making thought provoking art for many more years to come.
