St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, is just around the corner. With the holiday comes the green wardrobes, which are worn to avoid being pinched, and those yummy gold coins that are so irresistible, even to us, humans. The little red-headed men dressed in cute green outfits, with a top hat to match, will also be making an appearance very soon. My sister, who is 8 years old, says “My favorite part about celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day is building contraptions to catch the leprechaun.” These gold-thirsty fellas are very difficult to capture, but by following these instructions very closely, one may be able to get their hands on a leprechaun.

First things first. Go to the nearest store and buy many packs of the rainbow colored sour belts. It is important to buy top-of-the-line brands for every item because these leprechauns are very classy people who have a good eye for quality. Another important step in the process is paying a visit to a jewelry store. Once there, it is crucial to buy the most expensive gold piece of jewelry they have to offer. Buying anything less than the best will only upset the leprechaun and make him feel insecure and unworthy. After this step is completed, collect a shoe box from the most valuable shoe that can be found, find a thin string of the highest quality silk and get a hot glue gun.

Assembling the contraption will take a lot of care and detail. Everything has to be perfect for a leprechaun to even consider entering. With that being said, one can begin to put the supplies together. Open the shoe box and glue the candy from one end to the other, arching it into a semicircle so that it resembles a rainbow. Once this part is completed, take the silk and carefully tie a knot around the gold article. Make sure that the string is not too visible. Glue the free end of the string to the top of the box. The gold should now be suspended about 2 millimeters, no more and no less, in the air. This completes the building process.

On the night of March 16th set the trap out in the garden at exactly 10:49 pm. If it is well put together, the green guys will not be able to resist going in. They will see the gold, put their tiny hands around it, and take a big bite into it to make sure it is real. When they bite into the gold, the string will be yanked on and the box will shut, capturing them inside. That’s how one catches a leprechaun!

WARNING: Leprechauns are known to be vicious creatures. They are also very good at escaping. It is highly probably (about 99.99999%) that he will steal the gold and escape.
