On March 25, 2017, the Canyon High School Foundation will be holding the 4th Annual Hall of Fame to honor four former CHS faculty for their contributions to CHS. The Foundation has selected the school gymnasium as the Fund-A-Need at the Hall of Fame event. This event will allow individuals in the community to donate to this much needed renovation. Canyon High School’s gymnasium is not only a focal point to the school but also to the Anaheim Hills community.

There are three phases that have been outlined for this renovation. Phase One consists of repairing and renovating the gymnasium. This includes equipment upgrades and repairs, paint and graphics, updating CIF and league banners, and new entryway rugs. Phase Two involves updating the lighting such as LED bulbs and other compatible fixtures. Phase Three is replacing the floor and bleachers (Fund-A-Need brochure). Athletic Director, Ashley Higuera, states, “The event itself has been created to honor the inductees; the primary purpose of the night is to honor these individuals, and secondary, it is a fundraiser to help support all of the programs on campus.” Mrs. Higuera understands the impact this fundraiser can have on the school as a whole and has worked hard for this event to be a success. Mr. Abercrombie, Canyon High School’s principal, is very fond of this event as well, “It is where we try to rally support from students, from staff, from the community, from business partners to contribute to the overall amount that it will cost to renovate the gym.” In order to bring people together for this fundraiser, we must unify the community because it is clearly important and beneficial to accomplish this goal. The Gymnasium at Canyon High School is commonly used by coaches. Coach Harrison and Coach Lofink were asked their opinions about the 2017 Fund-a-Need. Coach Harrison responded, “I think it is great because obviously the gym is a major centerpiece on campus and a lot of groups use it. I think it is a great use of this fundraising opportunity, to try to fix up the gym.” Coach Lofink expressed his opinion by saying, “I think it is a great idea; look, the bleachers are falling apart, the paint is crusted over and peeling off, all the acoustics

that were once white are now gray, and then we got a black ceiling. You go into our gym and it is a depressing feeling, this does not look like a gym. We have got to clean it up.” Obviously, the coaches at Canyon High School are in full support of this event. This specific Fund-A-Need for the gym renovation is an important campaign for Canyon High School. This school has served as a welcoming environment for students for many years. Improving the gym’s condition will provide many benefits for the staff, teachers, and student body. There will be a better working space for athletes, stronger unison amongst the students during pep assemblies, and a lure for incoming freshmen. All the school needs now is the support of the community. Anyone can donate by going to this link: www.canyonhs.foundation to make a monetary donation.
