A Winter Break in Canada

A lot of people are a little depressed that they didn't get a white Christmas like the rest of America seems to boast. Others were very appreciative of the gift of living in sunny, snowless California. My family and I were craving the cold and snow, so this winter break we went up to Canada
First, we flew all the way to New York. From there, we drove up to Montreal and crossed the border by car. I was exhausted! The weather was rainy and the overall journey was something I would NOT want to repeat. Yet, thankfully, we arrived safe and sound. The first thing that I noticed was the beautiful snow! The second thing that caught my eye was how flat Canada's landscape was compared to Anaheim Hills.
The trip wasn't full of attractions, but we did go to the Montreal Biodome. The Biodome is a giant indoor zoo that encloses animals including alligators, penguins, and a big fluffy Lynx. Although it was snowing and freezing outside, a few inside sections of the Biodome contained the tropics!
Although Quebec is full of mostly French speakers, my sister and I still decided to go to the movies. The theaters start showing movies in English later in the day, so we went to see Rouge One in the afternoon. Something interesting about the theater is that it contained 'VIP seats' all across the middle of the theater (two rows). When the movie started, we realized that these more expensive seats moved and vibrated along with the movie to give the viewer a truly immersive experience.
Of course, no one can step foot on Canadian soil without making sure they eat at a Tim Hortons Restaurant, fortunately, they sit at the corner of almost every street. There were days that we didn't feel like going out, and fortunately those good-old Canadians had takeout Poutine that could be delivered right to your front door! For those of you that don't know what Poutine is (and you have clearly never been to Quebec) it's this strange mixture of French fries and bits of cheese that are all slathered in gravy. Hey, don't knock it till you try it- it actually tastes pretty good!
This was just a small part of all of the interesting I saw while visiting Quebec. If you are wondering where else to visit during your weeks off, give Canada a chance! Just don't forget to bring your snow jacket along!
