The Aisle Less Traveled

Yes, admittedly, I am a huge foodie. Food, food, and more food! Keep it coming. It is fun to try foods that aren't common or that come in rare flavors. Today, I will be trying a few of these delicacies (YAY!). Before beginning, I'd like to state that the products being taste tested can all be purchased from the snack aisle at Ralph's.

So to kick things off, I tried dill pickle flavored Pringles. I am a huge fan of pickles and chips, but I didn't know quite how I felt about the two favorites being combined. The result, YUM! The Pringles tasted EXACTLY like pickles. They were sour and salty and of course, crunchy! These aren't for everyone, but to my pickle lovers, this is a new obsession.

Next, I tried cheeseburger flavored Pringles. When I saw these on the shelf I immediately thought “In N Out” and grabbed them as quickly as possible. These led to disappointment. The chips did not provide the familiarity that was expected. The Pringles tasted like the original flavor of a plain potato chip. Not much here folks. The verdict: not impressed. Thanks for the false advertising!

Then a sugar cane drink that is made by a brand called Yeo’s was left to try. The drink was satisfactory. The taste wasn’t too bad, but it became too much after multiple sips. It tasted as if someone had mixed water with a little bit of sugar. It definitely lives up to the expectation; it just wasn’t for me. It was oddly sweet but at the same time too watered down. Final thoughts: it will not be on my grocery list next time. Up next, Swedish fish flavored Oreos. Being a huge fan of the red, fish-shaped gummies, these were a must. I am not that big on Oreos, but hey, why not? Upon opening the package, a whiff of Swedish fish pleased my nose. A great first impression. After taking a hefty bite into one of the cookies. the creamy texture of a once gummy candy "weirded" me out. Also, the filling was sour and in contrast to the sweet cookie, the combination was awkward. This resulted in me eating the cookie and the cream separately and it was more appetizing that way. The outcome: both ingredients are better on their own.

In the end, this was a super experience. Getting to try a handful of weird snacks was a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing this again. Not everything appealed to me but maybe I will motivate others to step outside of their comfort zone and try something new. It could be great!
